A new Web3 MMORPG is being developed by the same developers behind Far Cry and Diablo Immortal.

Metaverse Game Studios, which has developed AAA titles, has partnered with Web3 development platform ImmutableX to continue building Angelic.

A dark science fiction-themed narrative strategy RPG featuring turn-based combat, the game is powered by Unreal Engine 5. A story-driven single player campaign and a free-to-play multiplayer metaverse suggest a broad offering for gamers seeking an AAA-level Web3 gaming experience.

An Ethereum-based nonfungible token (NFT) digital collectible in the game will be powered by ImmutableX’s full-stack gaming platform. Angelic is also touted as being ‘chain agnostic’, meaning digital assets can be hosted off-chain while still being interoperable with other blockchains.

‘The social benefits are huge’: Web3 gaming shifts digital ownership

In addition to catering to Web2 and Web3 audiences, Angelic promises to deliver a ‘collaborate-to-earn’ offering that will allow users to own in-game assets and participate in future development of the game. ImmutableX and Metaverse Game Studios aim to reward Angelic community members for contributing to the game’s world as well.

Anastasia Volgemut, director of operations at Metaverse Games Studios, credits ImmutableX as a key component of its Web3 functionality:

“With ImmutableX, our users can enjoy fast, secure, and gas-free minting, as well as uninterrupted and quality gaming.”

In January 2023, Angelic will launch alpha testing with selected community members and partners, followed by a public launch in February. Players will then be able to trade previously acquired in-game NFTs in the PvP section.

A $10 million seed funding round was led by Animoca Brands, Pantera Capital, and Everyrealm in March 2022 for Metaverse Game Studios.
